Signpost or Discourse structure

Signpost or Discourse Structure Think of it like a roadmap for your writing or speech before the reader or listener: Speakers and writers use special techniques (called signposts) to guide their audience through their argument or message. These signposts help connect what is being said now to what was said before and what's coming next. It's like creating a clear path for the reader or listener to understand. "Discourse structure" refers to the overall organization of a text, like how a poem, newspaper article, or speech is put together to convey the message. It's just like a big picture of how language is used to communicate effectively. Just like a roadmap helps you navigate/go through a journey, these signposts and structures help your audience follow his argument or message.

"Button, Button" |Choose the correct option| Book 1 English Part I

Button, Button by Richard Matheson

In this short story, there are three characters: Mr Steward, Mr Arthur, and Mrs Arthur Lewis (Norma). At the very beginning of the story, a package was lying by the front door, despatched by Mr Steward. Inside the package, a push button was covered with a glass dome. Mr Steward called on at 8. P.M said to them, "if they push the button somewhere in the world someone they don't know will die. In return they will get $50,000"   Norma tried to convince her husband to push the button to fulfil her desires, but Mr Arthur Levis opposed her. He called it 'murder someone. Anyhow, Arthur didn't like his offer and returned the button unit. Afterwards, Norma called Mr Seward and he returned the unit. She kept it in the kitchen without informing her husband.

Finally, she pushed the button in the absence of her husband. Coincidently, she received a call from the Hill Lenox Hospital. The voice informed her about the subway accident, a shoving crowd pushed Arthur in front of the train and died. She rushed to see the package that she had thrown in the wastebin after pushing the button. She spilt the package and was surprised to see that was no wire, no tube, and no transistor. The box was empty. Nothing did happen when she pushed the button because it had no connection anywhere. She remembers Arthur's life insurance worth $25,000 which would be double in compensation for his death. The last sentence is very iron when Steward replied to Norma: "My dear lady," he said. "Do you really think you knew your husband,"
